Aron Baynes: 1 year, $4.3 million (Boston Celtics)

The Boston Celtics needed frontcourt depth and help on the boards, while still maintaining some semblance of cap sheet flexibility for next summer when Isaiah Thomas and Marcus Smart hit free agency. Signing Aron Baynes helps in that regard, albeit in underwhelming fashion.

Last season with the Detroit Pistons, the 30-year-old backup center averaged 4.9 points and 4.4 rebounds in 15.5 minutes per game, shooting 51.3 percent from the floor.

He’s probably not good enough to be a starter at the 4, and even such a cheap signing like this won’t be lauded as a solution to Boston’s enduring weakness on the glass.
