Alan Williams: 3 years, $17 million (Phoenix Suns)

The Phoenix Suns have made their first move of free agency, and it’s an understated but good one. Three years and $17 million for Alan Williams is pretty great value for a restricted free agent whose strong finish to the 2016-17 season could have led to more lucrative offers elsewhere.

For those who weren’t paying attention to the Suns’ youth movement when it was in full force after the All-Star break, Sauce’s 7.4 points and 6.2 rebounds per game over 47 appearances last season won’t really stand out.

However, aside from being one of the NBA’s best and most energetic teammates, and ignoring the obvious hometown connections for the Phoenix native, Williams proved himself as one of the league’s most productive backups when he got minutes, gobbling up rebounds and finishing easy looks at the basket in limited action. He’s not a starting-caliber center, but he’s a young, high end backup worth keeping around as #TheTimeline takes shape.
