Derrick Rose, PG

Up to this point, there have been no connections between the Lakers and Derrick Rose. However, the team has been rumored to have interest in at least a couple of veteran guards, including Rondo, Hill and Waiters.

So why couldn’t they take a long look at Rose? He’s more talented than Rondo, although also more injury-prone. The former NBA MVP is arguably the top point guard left on the market, but hasn’t been able to gain traction with any interested parties.

Up to this point, he’s been connected to Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Clippers. The New York Knicks were also rumored to have interest in bringing him back, but have since backed out. If he continues to wade around in the free agency pool, the Lakers could enter the mix — especially if Rondo signs elsewhere.

Realistically, Los Angeles could get Rose to sign to a one-year deal with a team option in 2018-19. Doing so would likely cost them a pretty penny in 2017-18. Still, it wouldn’t be the worst investment, especially considering the Lakers’ lack of other proven options on the roster.

Rose is a plus starter when healthy, and could certainly provide some valuable guidance for Ball. If his knee checks out and he isn’t demanding some sort of long-term deal, the Lakers would be wise to kick the tires. That is, if the Bucks (considered favorites to sign him) don’t pull the trigger.
