Houston Rockets: 5 potential free agency targets in 2017
Paul Millsap
Since we’re talking about Daryl Morey and the Rockets, it’s only fitting that the first target is an All-Star. Millsap has been an All-Star for the past four seasons, and though he is now 32, he looks to still be in the prime of his career, averaging 18.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game last season.
In order to acquire Millsap, the Rockets would almost certainly have to execute a sign-and-trade, getting off of Ryan Anderson’s contract in the process.
While Millsap isn’t the three-point threat that Anderson is, he is much more versatile and dynamic scorer, a much better defender, rebounder, and passer. Plus, Millsap has continued to develop a three-point shot, hitting 1.2 per game last season. In fact, Millsap has shot above 35 percent from beyond the arc twice before in his career.
Millsap is one of the best power forwards in the league, and is capable of switching defensively, an important thing for teams looking to compete with the Warriors. Millsap would give the Rockets a Big Three and would make them a more serious threat for Golden State. If the Rockets are somehow able to land Millsap without completely gutting their roster, then Morey should be trying as hard as possible to bring Millsap to Houston.
