1. Gordon Hayward

In a league filled with star small forwards, Gordon Hayward’s name tends to be forgotten, but his talent is something to talk about. Hayward averaged 21.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game during the 2016-17 season. At 6’8″ and 226 pounds, he has the size to defend at the wing position, and the type of attitude that every team wants in their locker room.

Hayward has remained healthy throughout his career, as he has played in at least 70 games in every season, besides the shortened 2012 lockout year. At just 27 years old, Hayward is the only star free agent that is likely to improve in the coming years.

Despite all of the talent in this year’s free agency, Hayward is the best fit for Boston. The fact that Brad Stevens coached Hayward at Butler University is just icing on the cake. Unless he signs elsewhere, acquiring Hayward should be the Boston Celtics’ top priority.
