Which players should the Boston Celtics target in 2017 NBA free agency?

The Boston Celtics and the rest of the NBA are preparing for all hell to break loose at 12:01 a.m. ET on July 1.

The free agency period during the offseason is always one of the most exciting times for an NBA fan, and one of the most stressful times for the league’s front offices. The players earn their money for 82 games throughout the regular season, but front office executives earn their checks away from the court in June and July.

Usually, the big-name free agents re-sign with their teams, but Kevin Durant and Dwyane Wade turned that notion on its head last offseason.

With Durant forming a super team in Golden State, other teams seem to be scrambling to gather as many stars as possible. It makes sense, since the Warriors steamrolled through the Western Conference and they only lost one postseason game on their way to a championship.

Even the Cleveland Cavaliers, who have made three consecutive Finals appearances, had previously inserted their names in trade talks involving Paul George and as leading contenders for Carmelo Anthony if he is bought out in New York. When else has a team with so much success and the best player in the world attempted to shake up their roster so drastically?

Boston is in the arms race for star talent as well. With enough cap space to sign a superstar, the Celtics will have a shot at every player looking for a new home. Here are the top 5 players that the Boston Celtics should pursue in free agency.
