4. Style of play

According to Draft Express, the starting point when describing Ball’s playing style starts with his transition game. Being able to combine his considerable athleticism with his basketball smarts is a rare combination. As a result, Ball is able to create chaos on the defensive end, either creating turnovers or crashing the boards as a catalyst for pushing the ball in the open floor.

It’s in the open floor where Ball and the Lakers are an amazing fit. Head coach Luke Walton has brought many of the characteristics of his previous coaching experience, being an assistant to Steve Kerr with the Golden State Warriors, to Los Angeles. Getting up and down the court, constant ball movement and an emphasis on spreading the floor are just some of the traits Walton has tried to infuse into the long Lakers squad.

At face value, Ball seems like an ideal choice to spearhead an offensive system such as this. Transitioning from college to the pros should be a smooth one with Walton at the helm. Just consider these observations last season from journeyman Thomas Robinson.

"“Luke came in with a very loose environment. He’s a players’ coach. For a young group, there is nothing better than to be with somebody who was an ex-player that understands the game and knows one night you miss a couple of shots and you’re mad at yourself. You know how that feels.”"

Ball’s vision on the court should be utilized more than ever with the talent at his disposal. Brandon Ingram, the No. 2 overall pick in 2016, is entering his second year and will benefit greatly from Ball’s presence. Furthermore, versatile forward Julius Randle and the aforementioned Clarkson are terrific athletes who should benefit tremendously from Ball’s style of play.
