1. Jonathan Isaac, SF/PF, Florida State

2017 statistics:  12.0 PPG, 1.2 APG, 7.8 RPG

Jonathan Isaac would provide the Minnesota Timberwolves an upgrade over current starting power forward Gorgui Dieng.

They are similar in size, but Isaac is much more athletic with the ability to guard any position on the court. Isaac would give the Wolves an instant defensive boost and improve the bench by making Dieng the sixth man.

Isaac has a little work to do offensively, but is already good enough to contribute at the level Dieng does on defense.

Isaac has the ability to hit a jump shot and shoot open three-pointers. That will help the Wolves stretch the floor and open things up for Towns and Wiggins. His style of play would fit very well with the young athletes on the Wolves.

The most overlooked part of his game is his ability to hustle. He wins a lot of battles throughout the game because of his motor. That is something that you can’t teach. If the Wolves are able to fix his weaknesses, they will truly get a high motor player that can help the team in so many ways.

Here is what NBA.com had to say about Isaac.

"“Offensively, Isaac has a wide variety of skills. He’s got range out to the 3-point line, he can handle the ball to slash to the rim and finish. In face-up situations, he’s got a jab step, a crossover dribble, can spot up, can stop-and-pop – it’s a varied offensive game. “All of his shooting from the field, however, needs to be more reliable. He did make 50.8 percent of his shots, but that number can be higher as he works on knocking down shots of all kinds. Isaac was also active off the ball: He made 27-of-36 shots from cuts and offensive rebounds. Isaac rebounds both in and out of his area, and on the defensive glass he can snag the rebound and bust out dribble.”"

Drafting a power forward is the Timberwolves’ best bet on draft night. If Jonathan Isaac is available, the Wolves must take him. You can also make an argument for Markkanen, but defense is a safe bet to translate to the NBA. Isaac is ready to give the Minnesota Timberwolves a boost on defense immediately.
