With Andre Iguodala being an unrestricted free agent this summer, would it make sense for the Chicago Bulls to sign him?

‘Tis the season to indulge in as many NBA offseason rumors as possible. And lucky for fans, there are already a handful of good ones out there.

The 2017 NBA Draft does not take place until Thursday, June 22. Free agents cannot start even making verbal agreements with teams until July 1, with July 6 marking the start of official signings. But this league does not care, because as soon as the playoffs ended, so began the rumor mill.

Yes, complete with #Wojbombs and #Steinlines.

So what is the latest on the Chicago Bulls?

Well, it has been reported that the Bulls are one of a few teams potentially interested in Andre Iguodala. Currently with the Golden State Warriors, Iguodala is an unrestricted free agent this summer, and seems to already be drawing a good amount of attention.

According to Shams Charania of The Vertical:

"“Iguodala plans to seriously consider other teams in July… Many teams are expected to pursue discussions with Iguodala, including the Warriors, Utah Jazz, Los Angeles Clippers, Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks. Among teams around the league, there’s a belief that the value this summer for a two-way wing such as Iguodala could reach $20 million annually.”"

Now, it should be noted that other sources are under the impression that he will absolutely remain with the Warriors.

"“Iguodala has already indicated that his negotiation is almost already done and that he will re-sign with the Warriors, though I’m sure there are still deal points to be finalized,” said Tim Kawakami of the Bay Area News Group. “Months ago a source indicated to me that the only real issue to be worked out was the number of guaranteed years.”"

However, suppose the sixth man is indeed in search of a new home. Would Chicago make sense?

In a nutshell: not really.

For starters, Iguodala is currently 33, which does not exactly fit the continued narrative of “younger and more athletic.” And although the Bulls did sign both Rajon Rondo and Dwyane Wade after preaching those very words, one would assume they would at least try to stick the course this time around.

Especially if both veterans end up re-signing.

On top of that, a $20 million yearly contract is a little steep considering both his age and the possibility of Wade returning. While the star has yet to comment on his future with the team, if he does choose to return, that will come with a $24 million deal.

Even if he does not, it would be a shame to spend all that money at one time.

It is true that Iguodala is still one heck of a talent. The small forward may have averaged just 7.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists a game in 26.3 minutes of play last season, but he shot 52.8 percent from the field and 36.2 percent from downtown. And yes, he is an Illinois-native, making a desire to join Chicago and thus return home, understandable.

But as the Bulls’ roster and financial situation currently stand, it does not seem like Iguodala would be the best fit.
