Career stats (with the Hawks):  555 GP, 15.5 PPG, 5.5 APG, 4.9 RPG, 42.1 FG%, 75.7 FT%

Before making his debut with the St. Louis Hawks, Lenny Wilkens had never even watched an NBA game.

Once he stepped onto the court for the Hawks, Wilkens became intertwined with the league for the next four decades.

Wilkens spent his first eight years in the NBA playing for the Hawks, earning five All-Star selections, as he became one of the greatest offensive facilitators the the league has ever seen.

With 7,211 career assists, Wilkens ranks 14th all-time in league history. During the 1967-68 campaign, Wilkens finished as runner up in MVP voting to Wilt Chamberlain as he averaged 20 points and 8.3 assists per game.

After eight years with the Hawks, Wilkens was dealt to Seattle, where he won an NBA championship as a player and as a coach. His impact with the Atlanta Hawks would come again later, as he served as head coach for seven seasons.

Wilkens is enshrined at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and a coach, a feat only John Wooden, Tommy Heinsohn and Bill Sharman have replicated.
