Lonzo Ball considering talking to other teams

When you ask most folks about what the Lakers’ plans for the No. 2 pick are, they jump straight to Ball. However, based on some recent reports, it’s looking like the decision isn’t as straightforward as you might assume.

There’s been chatter about a lot of different options for the Lakers. As we saw with the previous point, Los Angeles may not even retain the pick come draft night. So it seems in Lonzo’s best interests to see what else is out there, right?

Well apparently he agrees. Here’s this from ESPN‘s Ramona Shelburne:

"“After Friday’s workout, Ball will consider talking to other lottery teams that have asked to speak with him, according to the source.”"

That’s a 180-degree change in direction from Ball’s stance earlier in the offseason. He (and his father LaVar Ball) made it clear early in the pre-draft process that he wasn’t interested in working out for any other teams besides the Lakers. However, with all of the rumors flying around right now, it makes sense for him to at least give a couple of others teams an opportunity.

It seem as though Ball is learning we don’t always get what we want. As much as him and his father tried to strong-arm the NBA into getting him drafted by the Lakers, reality is setting in. It’s time for him to imagine a future that doesn’t consist of a career in Los Angeles.
