The Miami Heat, owners of the 14th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, will work out Luke Kennard, Donovan Mitchell and Terrance Ferguson this week.
We are almost exactly one week away from the 2017 NBA Draft. The Miami Heat, by now, have at least an idea of who they’re targeting with their No. 14 pick. Even so, they’re still setting up some last-minute workouts.
To this point, over 80 percent of the team’s one-on-one sessions (that we know about) have been with big men prospects. However, that changed this week.
On Monday, the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson reported on the Heat getting a closer look at a combo guard out of Louisville by the name of Donovan Mitchell. He’s a defensive ace with a burgeoning offensive game. More on him in a bit.
Then, on Tuesday, Jackson leaked another team workout — this time, with Duke’s Luke Kennard. The southpaw is one of the hottest prospects in the entire class, shooting up draft boards thanks to his ridiculous shooting and newly unlocked flashes of athleticism.
Finally, on Wednesday, Jackson received word the Heat would be working out 2-guard prospect Terrance Ferguson, who’s a freakish athlete with great size, but still quite raw overall.
If we read the tea leaves, we can decipher Miami would like to land a big man with their 14th overall pick. Regardless, they’re prudent to be doing their due diligence by checking out three talented guards who could be available when they’re on the clock.
Let’s take a closer look at each prospect’s strengths and weaknesses, and figure out their potential fit with the Heat.
