Pau Gasol is old; LaMarcus Aldridge is getting older, and the rapid decline of his game during the postseason was severe when his team needed him most; and Dewayne Dedmon and David Lee can opt out of their current contracts to earn a nice payday in free agency.

The San Antonio Spurs are a perennial threat to win 60 games and an NBA championship, but they’re still second-best to the Warriors in the West and they need help in the frontcourt.

Enter Chris Bosh, two-time NBA champion with a wealth of championship experience and three-point touch for Gregg Popovich to harness.

Gasol has a $16.2 million player option this summer, and if he’s smart, the 36-year-old will opt in since his game is on the downward spiral. That could leave the Spurs strapped for cap room, especially with a new point guard to find/Patty Mills to re-sign, plus Manu Ginobili‘s future to figure out and Jonathon Simmons‘ restricted free agency coming up.

However, on a minimum contract, Bosh could be yet another unfair, typically Spurs-y addition. Pop wouldn’t dare risking the health of a player he respects like Bosh, but if he is medically cleared to play, there are few potential unions better than this one.
