5 potential landing spots for Chris Bosh in free agency
5. Oklahoma City Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder have no sidekick for their MVP candidate, Russell Westbrook. Asking a 33-year-old with health issues to fill that role in a potential return to action would be a lot, but in all seriousness, are we sure he wouldn’t automatically be OKC’s second-best player?
Not long ago, Bosh was basically a less defensively inclined version of Serge Ibaka. His pick-and-pop game with the Heat was intrinsic to their offense, he logged time as a small-ball 5 and he developed a serviceable three-point shot as his career went on.
With career averages of 19.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game over 13 NBA seasons, there’s no doubt Bosh can score and rebound. He averaged 19.1 points and 21.1 points per game in his last two seasons, shooting better than 36.5 percent from deep in each one. OKC could desperately use that kind of offensive production at the 4 — a position of need — to take the focus off Russ.
With Victor Oladipo not enjoying the breakout season many were expecting, ditto for Steven Adams and Enes Kanter being such a defensive liability, Bosh makes sense — especially as a low-cost flier for a team that’s going to be completely strapped for cap space this summer.
However, as much as Bosh’s arrival would bring veteran leadership, he wouldn’t elevate the Thunder back to Western contender status. He also has a few superior options available.
