Los Angeles Clippers: Could Chris Bosh be a free agency target?
By Evan Massey
Now that Chris Bosh is a free agent, could Doc Rivers and the Los Angeles Clippers look into signing him in free agency?
Not that long ago, Chris Bosh was a star for the Miami Heat and formed one of the best big Threes that the NBA has seen. Bosh was a perfect complementary piece alongside Dwyane Wade and LeBron James and the Heat were able to make it to four straight NBA Finals with that trio.
Unfortunately for Pat Riley and the Heat, all good things must come to an end. James started the beginning of the end by heading back to Cleveland to continue his journey to bring a championship to his hometown. Wade then left to return home to the Chicago Bulls.
Bosh has dealt with blood clot issues that have kept him out for the majority of the last three seasons. He missed all of last year due to those health issues. Now, Bosh and the Heat have agreed to a deal that has made him a free agent this offseason and he can continue his playing career if he wants and finds a team that is willing to deal with the clot problems.
Could Doc Rivers look to sign Bosh this offseason either as a replacement to Blake Griffin if he leaves in free agency or as a quality backup power forward?
Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report has mentioned the Los Angeles Clippers as one of his top landing spots for Bosh. They aren’t at the top of his list, but they are viewed as a legitimate option for him.
During his last healthy season with the Heat back in 2013-14, Bosh averaged 16.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. He shot 51.6 percent from the field overall and knocked down 33.9 percent of his three-point attempts. The next season he started the season averaging 21.1 points per game, but the clot issues showed up and ended his year.

L.A. is a piece or two away from being a serious threat to the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference. If they could stay healthy in the playoffs, they might have competed with the Warriors this season instead of falling to the Utah Jazz. Adding a talent like Bosh would give them a nice boost.
More than likely, Bosh will have to settle for a small contract this season. He will likely be looking for a one-year deal to prove that he can still consistently at the NBA level. L.A. won’t be able to spend a lot in free agency, but should be able to afford what Bosh will command.
At 33 years old, Bosh still should have some basketball left in the tank assuming the clot issues stay away. He has had a lot of rest over the past few seasons and has been itching to get back on the court. If L.A. does end up signing him, they will be getting a version of Bosh that has a major chip on his shoulder and wants to prove himself to the league once again.
Outside of the Clippers, there are quite a few teams that would be nice fits for Bosh as well. The Boston Celtics, Oklahoma City Thunder and even the Cleveland Cavaliers could be free agency destinations for Bosh.
Expect to see the Clippers have a very active offseason, both in free agency and on the trade market. Rivers will be searching for upgrades any way he can find them and that is exactly why they should be viewed as a serious contender in the Bosh sweepstakes.
