4. LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been rather underwhelming during the 2016-17 NBA regular season. Cleveland may be on pace for a 50-win season and the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, but it’s been legitimately underwhelming.

Since beginning the season at a dominant 40-16, the Cavaliers have gone 7-11 over the past 18 games—thus taking LeBron James out of the race for MVP.

True as that all may be, James continues to put forth one of the best individual seasons in recent memory. He’s on pace to become one of five players to average at least 25.0 points, 8.0 assists, and 8.0 rebounds per game.

James is also on pace to post the highest field goal percentage by any player to have averaged at least 25.0 points, 8.0 assists, and 8.0 rebounds per contest.

James began this past week by posting 32 points, 11 assists, nine rebounds, two blocks, and a steal in a 112-105 victory over the Charlotte Hornets. Unfortunately, James and the Cavaliers have lost three of their past four games.

James may not win the 2016-17 NBA MVP award, but he’s still the best player in the world and the frontrunner to emerge from the Eastern Conference and reach the NBA Finals.
