With the process working slower than some had expected, the Philadelphia 76ers will be hoping dreams can come true during 2017 NBA free agency.
After years of patiently waiting for their top draft picks to pan out, the Philadelphia 76ers are still stuck in mediocrity. The 2016-17 season showed some promise early on with the emergence of Joel Embiid as a rising star, but there’s still plenty of work to be done with this roster.
Heading into the 2017 NBA offseason, the 76ers are currently expected to have about $31 million in cap space available (via Spotrac.com). Also keep in mind that’s before the new salary cap has been set, which could see that number rise significantly.
With that cap space, the 76ers could be players when 2017 NBA Free Agency rolls around. However, as we all know, it’s not easy for teams like Philadelphia to secure top talent after years of pitiful play.
Unless there’s some tie to the city factoring into it, the best free agents are likely to laugh at the idea of signing with a team that routinely sits near the bottom of the standings.
