Top Wingmen

This summer is going to be the first major opportunity for the Sixers’ president of basketball of operations, Bryan Colangelo, to impress the franchise and fan base alike.

Now almost 12 months since he was installed in the role, Colangelo to this point has been seen to be riding the coattails of the work accomplished by his predecessor, Sam Hinkie.

But with more than $50 million available in cap space this summer, Colangelo and his front office have the chance to shape the team.

Last offseason was different in that Simmons had just been selected, Embiid had not yet stepped on the court and the team was coming off a horrific 10-72 season.

The top wingmen on the open market who would be both suitable and obtainable for the current Sixers squad are as follows:

    Otto Porter, Washington Wizards
    Age: 23
    2016-17:  13.9 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 1.6 SPG, 51.9 FG%, 45.1 3P%, 2.0 3PM, 33.7 MPG

Otto Porter is having a career year across the board, with both his field-goal and three-point accuracy jumping significantly. A prototypical 3-and-D player, Porter would be an ideal fit for the Sixers long-term.

    Dion Waiters, Miami Heat
    Age: 25
    2016-17: 15.7 PPG, 4.3 APG, 3.4 RPG, 38.5 3P%, 1.8 3PM, 30.4 MPG

Dion Waiters has been on a tear recently and has been a huge reason why the Heat have gone 19-4 over their last 23 games. Waiters’ ability to create his own shot has always been his greatest strength.

Further, his recent stretch (19.3 PPG, 5.1 APG, 44.7 3P%, 2.6 3PM in 18 games) has demonstrated a significant growth in his maturity, as both a player and a teammate.

    Tim Hardaway Jr., Atlanta Hawks
    Age:  24
    2016-17:  13.6 PPG, 2.6 RPG, 45.2 FG%, 35.6 3P%, 1.9 3PM, 25.6 MPG

In his second season with the Hawks, this has been a breakout year for Tim Hardaway Jr. The recent departure of Kyle Korver has added extra responsibility on Hardaway and he has welcomed this with open arms.

His three most recent games have seen Hardaway average 26.7 points per game while shooting 56.9 from the field and 45.5 percent from downtown.

    Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Detroit Pistons
    Age:  24
    2016-17: 14.5 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 2.7 APG, 1.3 SPG, 37.4 3P%, 2.2 3PM, 34.2 MPG

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has started in all his 58 games for the Pistons this years, with his three-point frequency and accuracy increasing noticeably from the previous season. With the ability to play at a high level on both ends of the floor, Caldwell-Pope is at the right age in which to make a significant investment.

    Bojan B ogdanovic, Washington Wizards
    Age:  27
    2016-17:  14.6 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 45.0 FG%, 38.5 3P%, 2.0 3PM, 26.8 MPG

Recently traded to the Wizards, Bojan Bogdanovic has taken off since arriving in the nation’s capital. This includes his most recent game against the Orlando Magic, where Bogdanovic nailed 8-of-10 from three-point range in 27 minutes off the bench.

At 6-foot-8 and with the ability to play at both wing spots, Bogdanovic’s length would fit nicely and provide an assortment of matchup nightmares alongside the likes of Embiid and Simmons.
