Anthony Davis continues to play at a level that makes it tough to even talk about the New Orleans Pelicans’ record. At 23 years of age, he’s preparing to make his fourth career appearance in the All-Star Game, this time as a starter.
Considering New Orleans is 11-11 over the course of its past 22 games, it’s even fair to acknowledge Davis as a winner when his supporting cast is available.
This past week was rough for Davis, who missed the better part of two games due to injuries. He’s been generally healthy in the sense that he’s avoided serious ailments, but the minor injuries continue to add up.
When a player produces in the way that Davis does, however, it’s impossible to overlook how worthy they are of a Top 20 ranking.
Davis is on pace to become the first player to average at least 28.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks since Shaquille O’Neal in 2000-01. Before O’Neal, who reached those numbers in five different seasons, it hadn’t been done since 1975-76.
Say what you will about New Orleans’ record, but Davis has been putting forth a season for the ages in 2016-17.
