The Toronto Raptors have have lost five consecutive games, which has inevitably created pause amongst those around the NBA. Just as Toronto appeared to be making the leap to elite, it suffered three bad losses and two close defeats against supposed equals.
Kyle Lowry suffered a slight drop down the Player Power Rankings, but he should be viewed as nothing but an elite regular season player.
Lowry ranks No. 2 in the NBA in Real Plus-Minus and No. 1 RPM Wins—an estimate of how many wins a player has added to their team’s total. DeMar DeRozan is stealing headlines as a scorer, but Lowry is still the catalyst on both ends of the floor.
Leadership matters far more than many believe, and there aren’t many leaders better around the NBA than Lowry.
Lowry struggled during Toronto’s first three losses of this five-game losing streak. He tallied 30 points during a 108-106 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, however, and had 29 points and eight assists during a 101-99 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Lowry is versatile, efficient, clutch, and one of the most respected leaders in the NBA—the perfect formula for a high ranking in the Player Power Rankings.
