2. Indiana Pacers

The Indiana Pacers gave the Raptors all they could handle in last year’s playoff series before eventually bowing out in seven games. Following that disappointing postseason exit, team president of basketball operations Larry Bird decided that a change in direction was needed.

Although Frank Vogel had guided the team to five playoff appearances in six seasons — including back-to-back Eastern Conference Finals appearances in 2013-14 — Bird felt that the team was not performing at a satisfactory level from an offensive standpoint.

Having said that, Bird hired Nate McMillan to replace Vogel and added Jeff Teague and Thaddeus Young to the mix. Yes, the Pacers have made some strides in regards to scoring, but that hasn’t led to much success this season.

In fact, although they have posted victories in four of their last six outings, the Pacers are just 13-12 and have a very slim half-game lead over the Detroit Pistons for the seventh spot.
