3. Hollis-Jefferson gives a glimpse of the future

While Lopez’s post play isn’t sexy, the length and athleticism of Rondae Hollis-Jefferson should fill seats. The Nets sophomore missed most of his rookie season due to a broken ankle. While he is incredibly raw offensively, his defensive potential is off the charts. After returning from injury last season, we saw a few brief glimpses of the player he can be when healthy.

Seeing Hollis-Jefferson steal the ball and take off in transition is a sight to behold. While he works on his jumper, he should still be able to have a positive impact on the game. Similar to Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in Charlotte, the Nets will need to find a way to maximize his strengths while sheltering weaknesses.

With the cupboard bare of young talent, Hollis-Jefferson is the lone example of exciting young talent that the Nets hope will eventually be their identity. While he likely will not be a franchise cornerstone, if he develops as expected he will become a large part of the teams future. Beyond him, the team will need to hope for hitting the lottery with reclamation projects like Anthony Bennett, Justin Hamilton, and Joe Harris. Or with an international find like Bojan Bogdanovic.
