Philadelphia 76ers: Allen Iverson’s Top 5 Playoff Performances
2. April 20, 2003: Sixers vs. New Orleans Hornets
It was the opening round of the playoffs and fans had already been treated to a couple of great performances. Dirk Nowitzki and Tracy McGrady scored 46 and 43 points respectively, in their series openers, but Iverson one-upped them both.
Scoring from just about every spot on the court, Iverson lit up the Hornets’ defense for 55 points on an efficient 21-of-32 from the field to go along with eight assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals.
With the outcome of the game very much in doubt, Iverson scored 20 of those points in the final 12 minutes, lifting the Sixers to a 98-90 win in the opener. On the heels of his highest scoring playoff game, Iverson joined Jordan, Rick Barry, Charles Barkley, Wilt Chamberlain and Elgin Baylor as the only players who scored at least 55 points in a postseason contest.
The Sixers won the series in six games before falling to the Pistons in six games in the next round.
