Philadelphia 76ers: Allen Iverson’s Top 5 Playoff Performances
4. April 29, 2005: Sixers vs. Detroit Pistons (Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Game 3)
The defending champion Pistons had won the first two games of the series by an average of 18 points. Additionally, Iverson connected on just 35 percent of his shot attempts in those losses.
The question was, would the Sixers be able to bounce back with a win to avoid falling into an 0-3 deficit? Iverson would emphatically provide the answer.
With his team’s season hanging in the balance, Iverson had one of the better playoff outings of his career. He dropped 37 points to go along with 15 assists (five in the fourth quarter), three rebounds and two steals, prompting praise from former coach Larry Brown.
"“From a personal standpoint, when you know what someone like that is capable of, it’s not a comfortable feeling,” Brown said, via ESPN. “We all know what he does, and I haven’t seen anybody stop him. The reason we’ve been successful is we’ve stopped other people.”"
While Iverson’s best performance of those playoffs helped the Sixers trim the deficit to 2-1, the Pistons went on to take the series in five games.
