Philadelphia 76ers: Allen Iverson’s Top 5 Playoff Performances
Newly inducted Hall of Famer Allen Iverson provided Philadelphia 76ers fans with a number of memorable playoff moments during his tenure with the team. Here is a look back at a few of them.
In 1996, the Philadelphia 76ers were coming off five straight seasons in which they failed to make it to the playoffs. Not only that, the team surpassed the 30-win total just once during that span.
Their fortunes would soon change when they selected Allen Iverson with the top overall pick in that year’s draft.
While it would take a few years before the team would become a playoff contender, Iverson proved right away that he was ready to play with the big boys in spite of his diminutive stature.
This memorable sequence against Michael Jordan occurred during Iverson’s first year in the league, a season in which he averaged 23.5 points per contest en route to winning Rookie of the Year.
In 10 full seasons with the Sixers, Iverson averaged at least 20 points and 4.5 assists per contest, with his best campaign taking place in 2005-06, a season in which he averaged 33.0 points and 7.4 assists per outing.
Nicknamed “The Answer,” Iverson often gave opposing teams fits because of his ability to blow by defenders with the greatest of ease. During his tenure in the City of Brotherly Love, Iverson helped lead the Sixers to six postseason appearances, including a memorable run to the NBA Finals in 2001.
A list of Iverson’s other impressive accolades include the following:
