
Tim Hardaway starred outside of the spotlight at UTEP, averaging 22 points and more than five assists per game as a senior.
Despite concerns about his size, he was selected 14th overall by the Golden State Warriors in the 1989 NBA Draft.

He was an All-Rookie selection in 1989-90 and went on to be named a three-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection for the Warriors, bouncing back from missing the entire 1993-94 season with a knee injury.
Hardaway was second in the NBA in assists in 1992-93, third in 1991-92 and 1994-95 and fifth in 1990-91, also placing fourth in steals and minutes per game in 1990-91 and second in minutes per game in 1991-92.
In February 1996, he was traded with Chris Gatling to the Miami Heat in exchange for Kevin Willis and Bimbo Coles.
In parts of six seasons in Golden State, Hardaway averaged 19.8 points, 9.3 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals in 37.0 minutes per game, shooting .455/.355/.768.
Hardaway was a two-time All-Star and three-time All-NBA selection with the Heat before he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in August 2001.
In February 2002, he was dealt to the Denver Nuggets and was waived in June 2002.
He returned to the NBA with the Indiana Pacers in March 2003 and retired at the end of the 2002-03 season.
An assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons since 2014, Hardaway is 23rd in NBA history with 1,542 three-pointers, 15th with 7,095 assists, 49th with 1,428 steals and 13th with an average of 8.2 assists per game.
