Oklahoma City Thunder: 25 Best Players To Play For The Thunder
By Phil Watson
The Seattle SuperSonics found a future All-Star when they acquired Tom Chambers along with Al Wood, a third-round pick in 1984 and a second-round selection in 1984 from the San Diego Clippers in August 1983.
They gave up James Donaldson, Greg Kelser, Mark Radford, a 1984 first-rounder and a 1985 second-round pick.
Chambers was an All-Star in 1987 for the Sonics, winning MVP honors in the game, and was a solid contributor during his time in Seattle.
But in July 1988, the unrestricted free agent signed with the Phoenix Suns.
In five years with the Sonics, Chambers averaged 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 33.6 minutes per game, shooting .469/.315/.826.
He averaged 18.6 points and 8.7 rebounds per game as a senior at Utah and was the eighth overall pick by the Clippers in the 1981 NBA Draft.
Chambers went to three All-Star games and was a two-time All-NBA pick with Phoenix and was fourth in the NBA in scoring in 1989-90.
Released in June 1993 by the Suns, Chambers signed in August 1993 with the Utah Jazz.
A free agent in 1995, Chambers spent the season in Israel before returning to the NBA in January 1997 with the Charlotte Hornets.
Waived by the Hornets in April 1997, Chambers signed with Phoenix again in August 1997 and was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in November of that year.
In December 1997, Chambers retired after appearing in just one game for Philadelphia.
He is 40th in NBA history with 20,049 points.
