The Seattle SuperSonics got themselves a newly minted All-Star and a two-time Sixth Man of the Year in February 1991 when they acquired Ricky Pierce from the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Dale Ellis.

Five days before the trade, Pierce played in his only All-Star Game, but eventually became a starter for Seattle.

He was third in the NBA in free-throw shooting in 1990-91, 1991-92 and 1993-94 with the Sonics.

In July 1994, he was traded with Carlos Rogers and two second-round picks in 1995 to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Sarunas Marciulionis and Byron Houston.

In parts of four seasons with Seattle, Pierce averaged 18.5 points, 2.6 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 28.3 minutes per game, shooting .477/.309/.906.

An All-American as a senior at Rice, Pierce averaged 26.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game that season.

He was the 18th overall pick by the Detroit Pistons in the 1982 NBA Draft.

Pierce was traded in October 1983 to the San Diego Clippers and went to the Bucks in a September 1984 trade.

Named Sixth Man of the Year in Milwaukee in 1986-87 and 1989-90 and an All-Star in 1991.

After he left Seattle, Pierce signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Indiana Pacers in October 1995.

In June 1996, he was dealt to the Denver Nuggets, who traded him to the Charlotte Hornets in February 1997.

Waived by Charlotte in August 1997, Pierce returned to the Bucks in December 1997 after playing briefly in Greece. He retired at the end of the 1997-98 campaign.

Pierce is 18th in NBA history with a free-throw percentage of .875.
