2. Norris Cole, New Orleans Pelicans

Could a trip back to Ohio be possible for Norris Cole?

The former Cleveland State Viking would be a welcome edition to the Cavaliers. For the last few years, some Cavs fans have wanted to acquire him to pair with Irving. He isn’t the prototypical guard that’s looking to pass first, he’s a pure scorer.

When Cole is on, he can go toe-to-toe with some of the best player’s in the NBA. His shooting  regressed as he went from shooting .378 in 2014 to .326 last season from three-point range.

But the best part of Cole’s game is dribble penetration. He’s one of the best at taking it to the basket and drawing the foul.

And of course, there’s the James factor just like with Chalmers.

James didn’t get into any verbal altercations with Cole as he did with Chalmers, but just like he brought the best out of Chalmers, he did the same for Cole.

He also brings a combination of speed, strength and athleticism. During his rookie year with the Heat, I was amazed at how fast he was at the NBA level.

He didn’t show much of that speed in college. He would also bring more versatility to the team–since he can play shooting guard too.

Cole is coming off a season where he put up career-highs in most categories. He started in 23 games last season for the New Orleans Pelicans–who were decimated by injuries all year long. He also had a career-high in scoring averaging 10.6 points per game.

He also managed to shoot .800 from the free-throw line. That’s quite impressive.

He would be energy off the bench for the second unit if the Cavs acquire him. One of the biggest issues with the rotation last season was little energy being shown. Cole would bring that to the team immediately.

With the Pelicans signing multiple point guards this offseason, Cole could be expendable, and they might not want much in return.
