Golden State Warriors

It seems the rich only keep getting richer these days. The Golden State Warriors managed to land the biggest free agent of the summer by signing Kevin Durant. The move, while a no-brainer, did gut the bulk of the depth on the team.

When you look at what Josh Smith could bring to to the team, it seems like a risk worth taking.

Smith’s ability to defend multiple positions would be a major asset in the Warriors switching defense. He would be able to play the four when Draymond Green goes to the bench and provide the team with even more length and athleticism.

Smith has never been known for his passing ability. But a simplified role in which he gets open looks off cuts to the basket would suit him well. The Warriors wouldn’t be asking him to play a key role.

However, if he could provide 10 minutes of solid play in the playoffs the addition would be a win.

The Warriors can’t afford to be picky when it comes to filling out their roster. Like the Cleveland Cavaliers did with J.R. Smith, sometimes you need to gamble that an enigmatic talent will do better in a winning situation.
