Miami Heat: 25 Best Players To Play For The Heat
By Phil Watson
Michael Beasley was a beast in his lone season at Kansas State, an All-American who averaged more than 26 points and 12 rebounds per game as a freshman.
The Miami Heat took the combo forward with the second overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.
He was an All-Rookie selection in 2008-09, but was dealt to the
in July 2010 in exchange for second-round picks in 2011 and 2014 along with cash,
in part to clear cap space.
The Heat brought Beasley back in September 2013 as a free agent and he appeared in one game in the NBA Finals in 2014, scoring nine points with three rebounds and an assist in the San Antonio Spurs’ title-clinching Game 5 victory.
Beasley left to sign with the Memphis Grizzlies as a free agent in September 2014.
He returned to Miami a third time on a 10-day contract in February 2015, eventually signing for the remainder of the season, but the Heat declined to exercise his option for 2015-16, making Beasley a free agent.
In parts of four seasons in Miami, Beasley averaged 12.3 points and 5.0 rebounds in 23.8 minutes per game, shooting .464/.332/.783.
In July 2012, Beasley signed as a free agent with the Phoenix Suns before he was waived in September 2013.
He was waived by the Grizzlies in October 2014 and played in China before signing with Miami.
Unsigned as a free agent in the summer of 2015, Beasley returned to China, where he was the league’s Foreign MVP in 2015-16. That led to a shot with the Houston Rockets in March 2016.
In 20 games off the bench last season, he put up 12.8 points and 4.9 rebounds in 18.2 minutes per game while shooting .522/3-for-9/.776.
He has one season remaining on the deal he signed in March.
