The Miami Heat grabbed a former All-Star when they signed swingman Dan Majerle as a free agent in August 1996.

Majerle dealt with injuries throughout his stay with the Heat, but was a solid contributor when available.

He left in July 2001 to return to the

Phoenix Suns

as a free agent.

In five seasons in Miami, Majerle averaged 7.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals in 30.3 minutes per game, shooting .397/.350/.762.

Majerle was the 14th overall pick out of Central Michigan by the Suns in the 1988 NBA Draft and was a three-time All-Star and two-time All-Defensive selection in Phoenix, leading the NBA in three-pointers in 1992-93 and 1993-94.

He was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in October 1995 and waived by the Cavs in August 1996.

Majerle spent five seasons as an assistant coach in Phoenix before taking over as head coach at Grand Canyon in 2013, where he is 59-37 in three seasons, including a 27-7 mark and a berth in the CIT quarterfinals in 2015-16.

He is 29th in NBA history with 1,360 three-pointers.
