The Miami Heat acquired Brian Grant from the Portland Trail Blazers as part of a three-team trade in August 2000, sending Clarence Weatherspoon, Chris Gatling and a first-round pick in 2001 to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

A combo forward earlier in his career, the Heat asked Grant to play center during much of his tenure and he was fifth in the NBA in rebounding in 2002-03.

in exchange for Shaquille O’Neal.

In four seasons in Miami, Grant averaged 11.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in 32.0 minutes per game, shooting .482/0-for-4/.796.

Grant was the eighth overall pick out of Xavier by the Sacramento Kings in the 1994 NBA Draft and was an All-Rookie selection in 1994-95.

He signed as a free agent with the Trail Blazers in August 1997.

Waived by the Lakers in August 2005, Grant signed with the Phoenix Suns eight days later and in June 2006 was traded to the Boston Celtics, but retired after being waived in October 2006 by Boston before ever appearing in a regular-season game for them.

Grant was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s disease in 2005 and went public with his diagnosis in 2009.
