The San Antonio Spurs went the blockbuster trade route in May 1989, acquiring former Rookie of the Year Terry Cummings and a second-round pick in 1990 from the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Alvin Robertson, Greg Anderson and a second-round pick in 1989.

Cummings was a good fit with the Spurs, but his career was changed by a severe knee injury sustained a pickup game in the summer of 1992.

He would leave to return to the Bucks as a free agent in November 1995.

In six seasons in San Antonio, Cummings averaged 14.4 points and 7.0 rebounds in 26.7 minutes per game, shooting .476/.290/.705. In the three seasons prior to the injury, those averages were 19.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 32.9 minutes.

He was an All-American as a junior at DePaul, averaging 22.3 points and 11.9 rebounds per game before opting to turn pro. Cummings was the second overall pick by the San Diego Clippers in the 1982 NBA Draft and was the 1982-83 Rookie of the Year.

Traded to the Bucks in September 1984, Cummings was a two-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA selection in Milwaukee.

He would later sign with the Seattle SuperSonics in January 1997 and with the Philadelphia 76ers in September 1997.

In February 1998, Cummings was traded to the New York Knicks and was dealt to the Golden State Warriors in January 1999, retiring in October 2000.

He is 40th in NBA history with 1,183 games and 46th with 19,460 points.
