The Dallas Chaparrals found one of the early long-range bombers in the ABA when they selected Virginia Tech’s Glen Combs in the middle rounds of the top-secret 1968 ABA Draft.

Combs was an All-Star in 1970 with the Chaparrals, finishing fourth in the ABA in three-pointers in 1968-69 and second in 1969-70. He was fourth in three-point shooting each season.

In parts of three seasons with Dallas and Texas, Combs averaged 19.4 points, 3.5 assists and 3.1 rebounds in 35.9 minutes per game, shooting .430/.355/.800.

Also a fifth-round pick by the San Diego Rockets in the 1968 NBA Draft, Combs never played in the NBA.

An All-Star with the Stars in 1971 and 1972, Combs was part of Utah’s 1971 ABA title team.

He was traded to the Memphis Tams in January 1974 and dealt to the Virginia Squires in August 1974.

Combs retired in August 1975 and was third in ABA history with 503 3-pointers and second with a 3-point percentage of .367.
