San Antonio Spurs: 25 Best Players To Play For The Spurs
By Phil Watson
Manny Leaks fought the good fight as a 6-foot-8 center and the Dallas Chaparrals scored him from the New York Nets for a draft pick in February 1969.
Leaks played the pivot for the Chaparrals until he was swapped back to the Nets in January 1971 in exchange for Levern Tart and Ed Johnson.
In parts of three seasons with Dallas and Texas, Leaks averaged 16.5 points, 11.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 32.9 minutes per game, shooting .483/0-for-2/.717.
Leaks averaged 17.1 points and 16.0 rebounds per game as a senior at Niagara and was chosen by the Detroit Pistons in the second round, 20th overall, in the 1968 NBA Draft.
He instead opted to sign with the Kentucky Colonels of the ABA, who had chosen him during that league’s 1968 draft.
He was traded in December 1968 to the Nets.
In November 1971, Leaks was traded to the Utah Stars and later that season, in January 1972, he was dealt to The Floridians.
When The Floridians folded after the 1971-72 season, Leaks agreed to a deal with the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers (the Pistons obliged and waived his rights).
Waived in October 1973, Leaks signed 10 days later with the Capital Bullets.
He retired after the 1973-74 campaign.
