That was despite knowing they wouldn’t see Robinson in anything but a Navy uniform for two years.

But he was the Rookie of the Year in 1989-90, was named Defensive Player of the Year in 1991-92 and was the NBA MVP in 1994-95. A 10-time All-Star, he was also a 10-time All-NBA and seven-time All-Defensive selection for the Spurs.

He was second in the MVP voting in both 1993-94 and 1995-96 and finished third in 1990-91 and 1991-92.

Robinson was the NBA scoring champion in 1993-94, led the league in rebounding in 1990-91 and in blocks in 1991-92.

For good measure, he was fifth in field-goal percentage in 1998-99, fifth in steals in 1991-92 and fourth in minutes per game in 1993-94.

The Spurs reached the NBA Finals in the lockout-shortened 1999 season and Robinson averaged 16.6 points, 11.8 rebounds, three blocks, 2.4 assists and a steal in 37 minutes per game, shooting .424/—/.688 in a five-game win over the New York Knicks.
