The San Antonio Spurs selected Argentine guard Manu Ginobili late in the second round of the 1999 NBA Draft and then played the waiting game.
GInobili spent three more seasons playing in Italy before signing with the Spurs in July 2002 and the left-hander has been a fixture ever since.
He was an All-Rookie selection in 2002-03 and was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year in 2007-08, while earning two All-Star berths and two All-NBA selections.
Ginobili has also played on four championship teams in San Antonio and been in five NBA Finals with the Spurs.
In five NBA Finals (wins in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014 and a loss in 2013), Ginobili has averaged 14 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.3 steals in 30.5 minutes per game, shooting .438/.350/.831.
In 2015-16, Ginobili was sidelined for almost two months after surgery to repair an injured testicle and was limited to 58 games. He averaged 9.6 points, 3.1 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 19.6 minutes per game on .453/.391/.813 shooting.
In 14 seasons in San Antonio, Ginobili is averaging 14.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 26.3 minutes per game, shooting .450/.369/.827.
He opted out of the final year of his contract with the Spurs, but re-signed with San Antonio on July 14, 2016, on a one-year, $14 million deal.
He is 31st in NBA history with 1,342 3-pointers.
