Sean Elliott had won a couple of national player of the year honors during a senior season at Arizona in which he averaged more than 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game.

The San Antonio Spurs chose the two-time All-American with the third overall pick in the 1989 NBA Draft.

Elliott was an All-Rookie selection in 1989-90 and an All-Star in 1993.

In October 1993, he was traded with David Wood and a first-round pick in 1996 to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Dennis Rodman, Isaiah Morris, a second-round selection in 1994 and a 1996 first-rounder.

Less than a year later, Elliott was back with San Antonio, re-acquired from the Pistons in exchange for Bill Curley and a second-round pick in 1997.

In his second stint, Elliott was an All-Star again in 1996.

He was also part of the Spurs’ first championship team, averaging eight points, three rebounds and three assists in 36.2 minutes per game, shooting .333/5-for-18/7-for-11 in a five-game victory over the New York Knicks in the 1999 NBA Finals.

Elliott missed the first 63 games of the 1999-2000 while being treated for kidney disease, eventually receiving a transplant. He retired after the 2000-01 season.

In 11 seasons in San Antonio, Elliott averaged 14.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 33.0 minutes per game, shooting .466/.379/.799.
