This offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers unloaded the debilitating contract of retired legend Kobe Bryant. Unfortunately, as we head into the 2016-17 season, this rebuilding franchise still has its fair share of overpriced contracts on the books.

Some resulted from this offseason’s overwhelming inflation as a result of the league’s new television deal that netted $24 billion. One was part of an offseason salary dump the Lakers were involved in, while another is an existing deal that has proven itself to be a waste.

Either way, the Lakers are still dealing with some financial strain even with Bryant enjoying retirement. They may have significant money under the cap still left to spend, but that doesn’t mean wasting cap space on average, aging players is the way to go.

It’ll come back to bite them eventually.
