2016 NBA Offseason Grades For All 30 Teams
Atlanta Hawks
“Individually, the Atlanta Hawks made some good moves. They gave Dennis Schroder his opportunity to grow as a starting point guard at age 22 (soon to be 23), found a viable Al Horford replacement on a manageable contract, brought back Kent Bazemore and aided the team’s point guard depth with Jarret Jack.
But it’s tough to get high marks when you lose arguably your best player (Horford) and somehow still don’t pursue a rebuild.
The Hawks will still probably be a playoff team in 2016-17, and with the front office setting the goal of remaining competitive next year, they managed to accomplish that feat despite losing two of their four best players.
Unfortunately, none of that changes Atlanta’s ceiling for the short-term, and unless the shaky Schroder can exceed everyone’s wildest fantasies, the Hawks feel like a team whose roster is heading for yet another moment of truth just a few years down the road.”
