Indiana Pacers

“With a couple of marquee additions like Jeff Teague, Thaddeus Young and Al Jefferson, the impression of the Indiana Pacers‘ offseason may be giving too much credit to what the team actually accomplished for its roster.

Teague is a better scorer and facilitator than the departed George Hill, but he’s not a better long range shooter and he’s a far worse defender. Young is a quality defender who brings speed and cutting to the wing, but he can’t shoot. And though Jefferson may be able to feast on opposing second units, his defense is notoriously bad and his impact will be limited to bench scoring.

With a starting lineup of Teague, Monta Ellis, Paul George, Young and Myles Turner, the Pacers will undoubtedly be a playoff team again in 2016-17. But all these lateral moves don’t really set Indiana on the path back to contention, especially as they stray so far from the defensive identity that helped them rise to the prominence in the first place.”
