Clifford Robinson averaged 20.0 points and 7.4 rebounds as a senior at Connecticut, but this was before the program became the national power known as UConn.
Instead, Robinson entered the draft as a tweener-type player and stayed on the board until the Portland Trail Blazers took him in the second round, 36th overall, in the 1989 NBA Draft.
He played sparingly early on, but manned all three frontcourt positions at various times with the Blazers and was the NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 1992-93 and an All-Star in 1994.
As a rookie reserve, Robinson averaged 3.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in 16.4 minutes per game in the 1990 NBA Finals, shooting .250/0-for-1/3-for-6 in a five-game loss to the Detroit Pistons.
Two years later, he averaged 10.3 points, three rebounds and 2.2 assists in 24.3 minutes per game off the bench, shooting .442/0-for-1/.593 in a six-game loss to the Chicago Bulls in the 1992 NBA Finals.
He left to sign with the Phoenix Suns as a free agent in August 1997.
In eight seasons in Portland, Robinson averaged 16.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.1 blocks in 30.8 minutes per game, shooting .446/.349/.679.
Robinson was an All-Defensive selection with the Suns in 1999-2000.
Traded to Detroit in July 2001, he was All-Defensive again in 2001-02.
Robinson was traded to the Golden State Warriors in August 2003 and was dealt in February 2005 to the New Jersey Nets.
He retired after being waived by the Nets in July 2007.
Robinson is 10th in NBA history with 1,380 games, 20th with 42,561 minutes, 38th with 1,253 three-pointers, 42nd with 1,390 blocked shots and 44th with 19,591 points.
