The Portland Trail Blazers acquired a young big man with great potential when they got Rasheed Wallace along with Mitchell Butler from the Washington Bullets in exchange for Rod Strickland and Harvey Grant in July 1996.

Wallace was a two-time All-Star with the Blazers, finishing third in the NBA in field-goal percentage in 1996-97 and fifth in 1999-2000.

But he also set an NBA record with 41 technical fouls in a season while with the Trail Blazers, something he became as well-known for as his basketball ability.

In February 2004, he was traded with Wesley Person to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Theo Ratliff and Dan Dickau.

In parts of eight seasons in Portland, Wallace averaged 16.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals in 35.5 minutes per game, shooting .497/.335/.713.

Wallace was an All-American as a sophomore at North Carolina, opting for the pros after averaging 16.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game and helping the Tar Heels to a Final Four berth.

He was the fourth overall pick by the Bullets in the 1995 NBA Draft and was an All-Rookie selection in 1995-96.

Just 10 days after acquiring him, Atlanta traded Wallace to the Detroit Pistons in February 2004, where he was a two-time All-Star and part of the Pistons’ 2004 championship team.

He signed as a free agent with the Boston Celtics in July 2009 and retired after he was waived in August 2010.

But Wallace returned to the NBA when he signed with the New York Knicks in October 2012, retiring again in April 2013.

He is 38th in NBA history with 1,460 blocked shots.
