Brian Grant was coming off an injury-plagued season, but the Portland Trail Blazers signed the forward to a seven-year free-agent deal in August 1997.

He managed to have one healthy season with the Blazers, but was very productive when he was on the court before being traded to the Miami Heat in a three-team deal in August 2000, with the Blazers also giving up Gary Grant to the Cleveland Cavaliers and getting Shawn Kemp back from the Cavs.

In three seasons in Portland, Grant averaged 10.2 points and 8.0 rebounds in 27.7 minutes per game, shooting .495/1-for-3/.753.

Grant averaged 17.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game as a senior at Xavier and was the eighth overall pick by the Sacramento Kings in the 1994 NBA Draft and was an All-Rookie selection in 1994-95.

With the Heat in 2002-03, Grant was fifth in the NBA in rebounding.

In July 2004, he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Waived in August 2005, he signed eight days later with the Phoenix Suns.

Grant was traded in June 2006 to the Boston Celtics.

He retired after being waived by the Celtics in October 2006.

Known for his charitable work throughout his career, Grant went public in 2009 with his four-year-old diagnosis of early-onset Parkinson’s disease and has partnered with other well-known sufferers of the ailment such as Michael J. Fox and Muhammad Ali to raise funds for research into finding a cure and improve therapies for people living with the ailment.
