Portland Trail Blazers: 25 Best Players To Play For The Trail Blazers
By Phil Watson
The Portland Trail Blazers gave up a lot to get rookie forward Calvin Natt from the New Jersey Nets in February 1980, trading away Maurice Lucas and first-round picks in 1980 and 1981.
Natt was an All-Rookie selection in 1979-80.
He also was fifth in the NBA in field-goal percentage in both 1981-82 and 1983-84.
He was traded in June 1984 along with Fat Lever, Wayne Cooper, a second-round pick in 1984 and a first-round selection in 1985 to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Kiki Vandeweghe.
In parts of five seasons in Portland, Natt averaged 17.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 33.1 minutes per game, shooting .543/.228/.766.
Natt was an All-American as a senior at Northeast Louisiana (now Louisiana-Monroe), averaging 24.4 points and 10.9 rebounds per game and was the eighth overall pick by the Nets in the 1979 NBA Draft.
An All-Star in 1985 with Denver, an Achilles tendon injury in November 1986 dramatically shortened Natt’s career.
Natt was traded to the San Antonio Spurs in January 1989 and waived in February 1989.
He signed with the Indiana Pacers in October 1989 and retired in 1990.
Natt is 39th in NBA history with a field-goal percentage of .528.
