An All-American after a senior year at Illinois in which he averaged 20 points and almost five rebounds per game, Kendall Gill went to the Charlotte Hornets with the fifth overall pick in the 1990 NBA Draft and contributed right away.

Gill was an first team All-Rookie selection in 1990-91, earning a starting spot by the end of the season and evolved into a 20-point scorer.

and a first-round selection in 1994.

Charlotte brought Gill back from the Sonics in June 1995, acquiring him in exchange for Hersey Hawkins and David Wingate.

The return was brief. In January 1996, Gill was traded with Khalid Reeves to the New Jersey Nets in exchange for Kenny Anderson and Gerald Glass.

In parts of four seasons in Charlotte, Gill averaged 15.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.5 steals in 32.1 minutes per game, shooting .459/.271/.772.

Gill led the NBA in steals in 1998-99 with the Nets and signed with the Miami Heat as a free agent in August 2001. In September 2002, he inked a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In August 2003, he signed with the Chicago Bulls and in December 2004, he was signed by the Milwaukee Bucks, who waived him a month later, prompting Gill to retire.

He is 40th in NBA history with 1,519 steals.
