Charlotte Hornets: 25 Best Players To Play For The Hornets
By Phil Watson
The Charlotte Bobcats were looking for a spark when they acquired former Most Improved Player Boris Diaw along with Raja Bell and Sean Singletary from the Phoenix Suns in December 2008 in exchange for Jason Richardson, Jared Dudley and a second-round pick in 2010.
Diaw moved into the starting lineup at power forward and assumed the role of floor spacer with his deep shooting and playmaking ability.
But things soured and in March 2012, Diaw was waived by the Bobcats.
In parts of four seasons in Charlotte, Diaw averaged 11.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 34.3 minutes per game, shooting .481/.346/.711.
Diaw was the 21st overall pick from Pau-Orthez in France by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2003 NBA Draft and immediately made the jump to the NBA.
In August 2005, he was traded to the Suns, with whom he was the NBA’s Most Improved Player in 2005-06.
Two days after being waived by Charlotte, Diaw signed with the San Antonio Spurs, where he was part of their 2014 NBA title team.
In 2015-16, Diaw averaged 6.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 76 games for the Spurs, shooting .527/.362/.737.
He was traded to the Utah Jazz on July 8, 2016, and has two years remaining on a four-year contract he signed as a free agent with San Antonio in July 2014.
