Baron Davis was an All-American as a sophomore at UCLA, averaging almost 16 points per game before declaring for the pros.
The Charlotte Hornets selected Davis with the third overall pick in the 1999 NBA Draft.
He matured quickly, taking over at point guard after a year as a reserve, and was an All-Star in 2002, finishing fourth in the NBA in assists and steals in 2001-02 after finishing fifth in steals in 2000-01.
Davis left with the Hornets to New Orleans after the 2001-02 season.
In three seasons in Charlotte, Davis averaged 12.6 points, 6.5 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.8 steals in 32.7 minutes per game, shooting .421/.324/.629.
Davis was an All-Star again with New Orleans in 2004 and an All-NBA selection in 2003-04, leading the NBA in steals that season.
In February 2005, he was traded to the Golden State Warriors, where he led the NBA in steals again in 2006-07.
In July 2008, Davis signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Clippers.
He was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in February 2011 and, after being waived in December of that year, signed with the New York Knicks five days later.
Unsigned as a free agent in the summer of 2012 after sustaining a serious knee injury during the playoffs that spring, Davis did not play in 2013-14 or 2014-15.
But he did play six games in the D-League late in 2015-16, averaging 12.8 points per game
He is 32nd in NBA history with 1,332 3-pointers, 34th with 6,025 assists, 38th with 1,530 steals, 24th with an average of 7.2 assists per game and 25th with an average of 1.8 steals per game.
