Nine players switched jerseys in August 2000 when the Charlotte Hornets acquired P.J. Brown from the Miami Heat along with Jamal Mashburn, Otis Thorpe, Rodney Buford and Tim James in exchange for Eddie Jones, Anthony Mason, Ricky Davis and Dale Ellis.
Brown switched from power forward to center upon arrival with the Hornets and was an All-Defensive selection in 2000-01, the third time in his career he had been picked.
He was with the team when it moved to New Orleans after the 2001-02 season.
In two seasons in Charlotte, Brown averaged 8.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.1 blocks in 33.6 minutes per game, shooting .459/0-for-4/.855.
Brown averaged 12.7 points and 9.9 rebounds per game as a senior at Louisiana Tech and was taken in the second round, 29th overall, by the New Jersey Nets in the 1992 NBA Draft.
He signed with the Heat as a free agent in July 1996.
He was a two-time All-Defensive selection in Miami.
In his first season in New Orleans, 2002-03, Brown was fourth in the NBA in field goal percentage.
In July 2006, he was traded to the Chicago Bulls.
He went unsigned in the summer of 2007 before landing with the Boston Celtics as a free agent in February 2008, earning a championship ring that spring before retiring.
